Map: Borderline (borderline.world) by Chris Silver, from 1,623 players' first taps, 1 Jul to 23 Oct 2026. CC BY 4.0.
To read out: "Asked to find Mozambique on a blank globe, about sixteen hundred players tried, and nearly half got it with their first tap. You can play at borderline dot world."
For a class: ask everyone to point to Mozambique on a blank globe, then put this map on the board. Further down, the globe gives the class one tap to find Fiji, and its "Have another go" button resets it.
Every day Borderline gives everyone the same five countries to find on a blank 3D globe. This map takes each player's first tap when the daily puzzle asked for Mozambique, from 1 Jul to 23 Oct 2026. It leaves out 18-22 Oct, when a short burst of one-off visitors would have skewed it. Each player counts once, with their earliest try. The game hands back the first tap in open water for free, so the map counts the tap after it; a second tap in the sea counts as a miss. A first tap in the player's own country does not count either, matched from their internet address, when that country was not Mozambique: 1 tap was left out that way. A tap counts as found when it lands inside the border. From 22 Aug 2026, when the game began giving credit for a tap just off the coast, a tap close enough to the coast counts too; before then only taps inside the border counted. Every counted tap is drawn where the game logged it, to about 1 km, on the same detailed map of borders the game judges taps against. A dot is bigger than the spot it marks, so where a miss landed close to the border, the part of its dot that would cross into Mozambique is left off. One miss falls just inside Mozambique's border on this map, although the game logged it as Malawi, 20 km out. It counts as a miss in every figure here but is not drawn, so that no miss is shown inside the border.
"Typical miss" is the median: half the misses were closer than that, half further. These are people who chose to play a geography game, not a survey of the population.
Your tap in Now you try is not added to any map. It is counted with the visit, as the about page explains.
